The Love List

The Love List: ASMR

I find it hard to switch off sometimes. Especially at night, when I’m going to bed – too often I have my worries follow me into sleep, and I end up having terrible nightmares. I’ve got a few things that help me switch off, but one of my favourites, and I rarely go to sleep without watching some, is ASMR videos.

ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response – essentially translating to ‘tingles’. Everyone tends to experience these ‘tingles’ differently, and it can be triggered by different sounds or motions, which will also vary person to person. For me, the tingles are a fuzzy feeling extending from my scalp down my neck, to my spine. It’s REALLY relaxing. In terms of triggers, I love massage videos, hair brushing, slow gentle tapping, soft whispering (assuming the person has a nice voice to start with), and gentle hand movements.

Because I find these so relaxing to watch, I thought I might share 5 of my favourite channels, and one of my favourite videos from each.

Gentle Whispering ASMR

So Maria is a bit of an OG when it comes to ASMR. She’s one of the earliest ASMRtists that I started watching, and she has hundreds of videos. Her content has evolved a lot over the years, but she always comes across as genuine and kind, and her voice is simply heaven. She’s a great tapper, and her manicure is always on point.

This video just has lots of sounds and movements that I love. I think it took me months to watch the whole thing because it kept putting me to sleep!

Itsblitzzz

Julia is relatively new to ASMR, but I immediately loved her channel. I think what I enjoy most about her videos is her authenticity and her genuine caring. She posts content other than ASMR as well, which is nice to get an insight into her life and who she is. She also has great hands.

This video is AMAZING. Her model Paige just looks so relaxed (and is asleep at one point I think!). Paige is also one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever seen – she’s like a glowy unicorn!

Olivia Kissper ASMR

Olivia is from the Czech Republic, so she has a beautiful European accent. She’s like, a wonderful earth goddess who exists on another level (I suspect she’s part fairy). Her videos contain a lot of positive affirmations, which is great if you need something uplifting. She’s currently living in Costa Rica and her updates from there are just magical.

The sounds in this particular video are so relaxing. I like the dark lighting, the saging, and Olivia’s hand movements in this one. It has a lot of ‘skin’ sounds – which sounds like a creepy concept, but I really like it. She also has ‘spraying sounds’ in this one as well, which is another big fave of mine.

WhispersRed ASMR

I.Want. Emma’s. Hair. She has real life Ariel from The Little Mermaid hair, and I am so envious.

So not only is Emma a stunningly beautiful person physically, she comes across as a genuinely lovely, caring and kind person in her videos. She’s very aspirational. She smiles a lot in her content, which I think really indicates that she loves what she does. She has a delightful English accent, and again, like Maria from Gentle Whispering ASMR, her nails are always on point.

This video is great, because again, it has the ‘skin sounds’. The pace is a bit slower as well, which really gives you time to get into it. I also love the soft, fuzzy backdrop – it makes me want to curl up with a soft blanket by a warm fire.

Fairy Char ASMR

Charlotte – or Fairy Char – is another of my favourites. I enjoy the slower pace of her videos, and she also regularly uses makeup pearls – which I assume are like a highlighter thing (I’m pretty basic when it comes to makeup). But they sound delightful, and even just thinking about the sound gives me tingles. She also seems to exist in a pretty pastel universe that just makes me happy.

This video makes me so envious of her model. I just LOVE everything about this one.

I bang on about ASMR a lot to my friends and colleagues because for me, finding ASMR has been so positive and life-changing. Some of my friends have gotten into it, some just think it’s weird – each to their own. My boyfriend thought it was odd at first, but now I’ll often find him working or gaming with an ASMR Twitch stream going in the background! Anyway, check some of these videos out – see if it’s your jam!

This video of Maria’s is my all time favourite too!! I’m also loving ASMRTheChew at the moment. Her gum chewing would drive me insane IRL, but she manages to give me insane tingles.

It’s that orange bag that really gets me in that video! And I’ll have to check out ASMRTheChew – I’ve not seen any of her videos!
