We went to People’s Day at the Ekka, and spent a wonderful few hours just drinking beers and watching the cooking demonstrations in the Woolworths Pavilion. I absolutely LOVE the Ekka, it’s one of my most favourite times of the year, and I’m super pleased that the craft beer offering has grown so much over the years.
So the Pikes Beer Company Chocolate Hazelnut Porter was my first beer of the morning, and it was the perfect breakfast beer! It was originally brewed for GABS 2018. It’s a little sweet but it doesn’t linger. It has lovely chocolate notes, which reminds me of Hershey’s Chocolate Sauce – yum! Strong hazelnut on the nose, and hints of hazelnut in the taste, which mellows out the chocolate for a nutty finish. It’s got a medium carbonation, so it’s not too much of an assault on the stomach first-up in the morning.
